Bâle - Franches-Montagnes (route No. 23)

“In Basle I was bothered by the heavy traffic. As the valley became wilder, I felt much better. I followed the winding river Birse to Delémont, which was pleasant and very beautiful. I had never seen the river from that side. After that, I suffered on the ascent of the gorges of Pichoux, but arriving in the Franches-Montagnes I found the gentleness of a green and peaceful landscape with its isolated farms with cows and horses to be a fine reward.”
